Starting bid vs max bid explained

Clear explanation of backorder bid fields and when each amount applies.

Dropcatch backorders use two bid fields. Understanding both prevents surprises at drop time or in auction.

Starting bid:

This is your opening commitment if you are the qualifying backorder and the name is assigned without a multi-party auction. Think of it as the price you are happy to pay for a straightforward win.

Max bid:

This is your ceiling if the catch enters a contested auction on Premium.st. The platform may bid up on your behalf in whole-dollar steps during that auction, never above your max.

Wallet holds:

While a backorder is active, Dot.st may hold wallet funds up to your max bid so settlement can complete if you win. Holds are not extra fees — they reserve money already in your account.

Whole dollars only:

All bid amounts must be whole-dollar values. Fractional amounts are not accepted.

Practical tips:

Set a max bid you can actually afford on Dot.st Billing. If your max is too low, you may lose a Premium.st auction even after a successful catch.

To review holds, sign in to Dot.st Billing while signed in to the same account.
